Denver Nuggets re-sign DeAndre Jordan as backup for Nikola Jokic, awaits decision on Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Without knowing what will happen with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Denver already knows that it will have DeAndre Jordan for another year as Nikola Jokic’s main backup in the paint, since according to Chris B. Haynes of Yahoo Sports The veteran center will continue with the Nuggets on a one-year, $3.6 million contract.

Even if it’s a minor move, as Jordan played just 36 games in the 2023-24 season, it at least serves to get the Nuggets to focus their efforts in other directions. After falling in the Western Conference semifinals to Minnesota, Colorado feels they need to do things in the market to be a contender of guarantees, especially if they lose a Caldwell-Pope for whom there are interested parties of the stature of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Returning to Jordan, the Nuggets’ intention would be to have him again as a resource in case of emergency; so much so that in the two seasons he has been with them, he has only participated in six playoff games.
