The DFB’s pink away jersey caused quite a stir before the European Championships. It has now become a real bestseller. The number of a Champions League winner is particularly popular.

The national team’s pink away jersey is becoming a historic bestseller for the German Football Association and supplier Adidas. “The pink jersey is the best-selling away jersey in the history of all DFB jerseys,” Adidas spokesman Oliver Brüggen told the German Press Agency. The DFB selection will play against Hungary in their second group match at the home European Championships in pink for the first time at a final round this Wednesday (6 p.m./ARD and MagentaTV).

The version with the number 8 on the back of Champions League winner Toni Kroos is particularly popular, said Brüggen. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf said on Tuesday about the strong interest in the pink and purple jersey: “I think people just like it because it’s fashionable.”

Many also saw the away jersey as a possible sign of more diversity. Neuendorf said that the choice of color should not be “overinterpreted in any way. I simply believe that people are concerned about fashion when they wear the jersey – and that’s fine.”

Celebrities also appear in the pink DFB jersey

The players of national coach Julian Nagelsmann wore the traditional white home jersey for the opening match of the European Championship in Munich against Scotland (5:1). It will also be the home jersey for the third group match on June 23 in Frankfurt/Main against Switzerland.

“We are delighted about the growing enthusiasm for EURO 2024 and the continued high demand for the DFB jerseys. Unfortunately, we are not commenting on production figures,” said Brüggen. Both jerseys are available through Adidas’ sales channels and from retail partners. “We are in contact with specialist retailers regarding additional quantities of jerseys,” said Brüggen.

The DFB team celebrated its premiere in pink last March – Germany won 2:1 in a friendly against the Netherlands. The away jersey is also very popular with celebrities and politicians. Before the opening match against Scotland, for example, Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck published a video in which he is wearing the pink jersey.
