DFB Team’s Penultimate Test Match Against Ukraine: Individual Criticism from the AZ

One and a half weeks before the start of the European Championship in their own country, the penultimate test match of the DFB team against Ukraine took place in Nuremberg. Julian Nagelsmann’s team was dominant and played offensively, but lacked determination and effectiveness. The individual criticism of the AZ.

MANUEL NEUER – GRADE 3: Celebrated his DFB comeback 550 days after his last international match on December 1st (4:2 against Costa Rica in the World Cup group stage exit). Made a strong save against Yaremchuk, who shot from around ten meters (38th minute), and saved with his foot against Mudryk (60th minute). With a big mistake at the end when he ran out and his chip landed with the opponent.

JOSHUA KIMMICH – GRADE 4: As a right-back, he is solid defensively, but without any notable flank runs or offensive passes. There is room for improvement.

Bayern’s dream player Tah: The calming influence of the defense

JONATHAN TAH – NOTE 3: The central defender, who only lost once with Leverkusen last season, played unspectacularly but calmly. He was the calming influence in defence with a strong header.

WALDEMAR ANTON – NOTE 2: DFB debut from the start for the central defender from VfB Stuttgart. Substitute at the European Championships because Antonio Rüdiger is the defensive leader. Good opening play, brave passes forward.

MAXIMILIAN MITTELSTÄDT – GRADE 2: The Stuttgart player is playing his third international match in a row. He seems to have been playing in his left-back role forever, clearing up a few situations with his fine left foot. He boosted the offensive after the break with his front man Führich.

ROBERT ANDRICH – NOTE 3: The midfield cleaner, with Leverkusen’s double laurel wreath, organized the defensive game and helped to get things going. In his fourth international match, he radiated confidence, but his shots were scattered wildly.

Toni Kroos is irreplaceable

PASCAL GROSS – NOTE 4: The Premier League professional from Brighton is making his sixth international appearance. Should do the double of Kroos, who is basically irreplaceable. With a few good passes up front.

JAMAL MUSIALA – NOTE 3: Forms the storm and stress duo of the offense with Wirtz. Strong shot with his right from the left corner of the penalty area – just over. He played better when he could dribble towards the goal with a running start. More active and with a better grip than Wirtz. After an hour he was told to rest his game.

FLORIAN WIRTZ – NOTE 4: The third Leverkusen double winner in the team had a hard time against the stable, tight defense of the Ukrainians. Often with a good first dribble – then he lost the ball. He stayed in the dressing room at half-time.

Watch out, DFB stars: UEFA wants to use this tough measure at the European Championships…

Gündogan had 1-0 on his feet

ILKAY GÜNDOGAN – NOTE 4: Germany’s footballer of the year once played for 1. FC Nuremberg (2009 to 2011). The captain missed the sure 1:0 goal from the centre-forward position (15th minute). He plays as a number 10, but is too harmless in front of goal. He remained pale and was substituted at half-time.

KAI HAVERTZ – NOTE 5: As is usually the case at Arsenal, he was lying in wait as a hanging striker. As a target player, difficult to position, lost a few balls. Headed the ball wide of the goal once, overall not enough penetration. Out in the 59th minute.

CHRIS FÜHRICH – NOTE 2: The Stuttgart star was the third player on the pitch. In his fourth international match, he played as a left winger for Wirtz from the second half, livened up the left side of the attack and brought Pep in.

DENIZ UNDAV – NOTE 4: The fourth player from the successful VfB squad came on for Gündogan in the 46th minute, playing the variable number ten. The instinctive footballer is well-rehearsed with Mittelstädt. He missed a big chance in injury time. But: He dares to do something.

Thomas Müller without much influence

THOMAS MÜLLER – GRADE 4: The veteran came on in the 60th minute for his 129th international match, committed and eager to run, but without much influence.

ROBIN KOCH – GRADE 3: Moved into central defence instead of Tah (60′). The Frankfurt player was defensively safe and solid.

MAXIMILIAN BEIER – NOTE 2: It was the Hoffenheim player’s first international appearance. The 21-year-old was immediately on fire and hit the ball against the underside of the crossbar, a very fresh breeze.

ALEKSANDAR PAVLOVIC – NOTE 3: The Bayern pro made his DFB debut in the 71st minute for Andrich. Committed, strong in tackles.
