Novak Djokovic underwent surgery on the meniscus in his right knee a day after withdrawing from Roland Garros. The Serbian tennis player underwent surgery in Paris and is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks.

It is uncertain whether he can participate in Wimbledon in July. The Olympic tennis tournament in Paris seems a more realistic goal.

The Serbian reached the quarter-finals on Monday after a grueling five-setter against Francisco Cerundolo, before withdrawing a day later.

“I had to make difficult decisions after suffering a torn meniscus. I am still processing it all, but I am happy to report that the operation went well,” Djokovic wrote on X.

After thanking his team and fans, Djokovic remains mum about his recovery. “I will do my best to get back on the court fit and healthy as soon as possible. My love for the sport is strong and the urge to compete at the highest level keeps me going.”

The 37-year-old Djokovic is having a disappointing season so far. He did not win any of the six tournaments he entered.

Due to his withdrawal from Roland Garros, Djokovic loses first place in the world rankings after this tournament to Jannik Sinner, who becomes the first Italian number one in the world.
