Dominican Republic Continues to Expand Olympic Delegation for Paris Games

Santo Domingo.-With one month left until the start of the Olympic Games, the Dominican Republic continues to increase the list of athletes who will be part of the delegation that will take part in the fair to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.

Yesterday the judoka Robert Florentino and the swimmers Elizabeth Jiménez and Javier Núñez extended the list of Creole athletes to 52, who will so far participate in the massive event in the “City of Light.”

Florentino will attend his second Olympics and will compete in the -90 kilogram category after confirmation from the International Judo Federation.

Elizabeth Jiménez and Javier Núñez were confirmed yesterday by World Aquatics to attend the Olympic Games.

Thanks to his remarkable work, the International Judo (IJF), through its qualifying process that began on June 24, 2022, awarded the 27-year-old athlete to be one of the 372 judokas who will seek the podium in the massive event.

This figure is slightly less than the 386 who competed in Tokyo.
The native of San Juan de la Maguana has the opportunity again to improve his past participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, after the setback he suffered when he was eliminated in the first round by the Ukrainian Quedjau Nhabali.

The judo discipline has brought more than 21 competitors to the Olympic Games since 1972, when Juan Chalas went for the first time to the games held in Munich, Germany.

Elizabeth will compete in the 100 meter backstroke, while Javier will compete in the 100 freestyle.
Florentino, Jiménez and Javier join the platoon that will include Marileidy Paulino, who, according to sources, would be the flag bearer of the delegation.
