The police and firefighters were notified around 3:00 p.m. that a child was missing in Mosten. The boy was there on a school excursion.
The child was quickly found in the swimming pond. Emergency services tried to resuscitate him, in vain.
The police evacuated the area while the schoolchildren and teachers in the child’s class were taken care of by the victim support service, said a spokesperson for the local police. The Red Cross is also on site.
The child’s family was informed and supported by the victim support service of the Antwerp police zone.
The public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the precise circumstances of the drowning.
