Dubai Inter-School Badminton Championships Promote Sport and Talent Development

People’s Daily Online, Dubai, June 13 (Reporter Zhang Zhiwen) On June 13, the 2023-2024 Dubai Inter-School Badminton Championships came to a close at the We Met Badminton Hall in Dubai. During the four-day competition, about 800 players from four age groups from more than 40 schools competed on the same field, further promoting the popularization of badminton among Dubai students.

The Dubai Inter-School Badminton Championship is an event of the Dubai School Games. The Games aims to promote the physical and mental health of students, popularize a healthy lifestyle, and select sports talents through the competition to cultivate talents for the development of sports and the Olympic cause in the UAE. This Games includes 20 sports suitable for young people to participate in, attracting more than 8,500 young athletes from more than 200 local schools.

Adil Bani, deputy secretary general of the Dubai Sports Council, told People’s Daily Online that as the organizer of the event, they hope to promote Dubai students to participate more actively in sports through the school sports meeting. “With more and more schools and students participating, some potential sports seedlings have also stood out through this event, which provides an important platform for their career choices and future development.”

In this badminton championship, Chinese student players Zhang Anshanbo and Zhu Mingjie won the U17 men’s doubles runner-up, achieving the best result in history. Huang Chunguang, member of the championship organizing committee and head coach of Dubai Bear Badminton Training Academy, said that as badminton continues to gain popularity in the Chinese community in Dubai, he believes that more high-level players will emerge and stand out in various badminton competitions in the future, contributing Chinese strength to the development of UAE sports.

The event was supported by many parties, including many Chinese companies. As the sponsor of the badminton championship, Danish Haider, Director of the Middle East and Africa Marketing Department of Midea Group Dubai Branch, said that this event not only provided families, teachers and students from different countries and regions with the opportunity to enjoy the passion of competition, but also gave children more opportunities to get in touch with cutting-edge technology appliances and quality food.
