The Edmonton Oilers are on the verge of reaching the Stanley Cup finals in the North American ice hockey league NHL for the first time in 18 years. In game five of the Conference Finals in the West, the Edmonton Oilers beat the Dallas Stars 3-1 away and are now leading the series 3-2. Edmonton is now just one win away from advancing.
Neither the Oilers nor the Stars managed to score a power play goal in the first four games of the series. That changed in game five: Edmonton’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored with a rebound after a shot by Evan Bouchard to take the lead in the first period (15th).
Broberg scores dream goal
It was also the striker who added another goal at the start of the second period – again during a power play (22nd). Just four minutes later, Philip Broberg made the preliminary decision with the first play-off goal of his career. The Swede scored a dream goal from the blue line (26th).
The Stars were unable to score more than a goal by Wyatt Johnston in the third period (55th minute). The Oilers have their first chance to reach the final on Monday night (CEST) in front of their home crowd at Rogers Place.
