Eight Sports Personalities Admitted to Panthéon des sports du Québec Hall of Fame in 2024

Eight personalities, including former Montreal Impact player Patrice Bernier and former goalkeeper Manon Rhéaume, will be admitted to the Hall of Fame of the Panthéon des sports du Québec.

Martine Dugrenier in wrestling, Dominique Maltais in snowboarding and Tania Vicent in short track skating are also among those elected in the athlete category.

Among the builders, former football coach Jacques Dussault, Gaston Marcotte in multisport and sports science as well as Hiroshi Nakamura in judo are those elected in 2024.

Bernier was one of the best Quebec soccer players of his generation who had a professional career spanning 17 seasons, notably playing in the Norwegian and German championships and with the Impact, a club of which he was captain.

Rhéaume was a pioneer in women’s hockey. She was the first woman to play in the QMJHL and the only one, to date, to play a game in the NHL. She kept goal in the East Coast and International leagues in addition to being a silver medalist at the 1998 Nagano Olympic Games.

Dugrenier is one of Canada’s most decorated wrestlers, a three-time gold medalist at the World Championships. She has also competed at the Olympics twice, placing fifth in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.

Maltais won bronze at the 2006 Turin Olympics and silver at the 2010 Sochi Olympics. She won five Crystal Globes as Snowboard Cross World Cup champion.

Vicent is a four-time Olympian. She has won a relay medal in each of her Olympic Games appearances. In her career, she has a total of 39 international medals, including seven at the World Championships.

Nakamura has been involved in the development and advancement at all levels and aspects of Quebec judo for over 50 years. His direct leadership led to the national recognition of Quebec as a leader in judo in the country and of Canada on the international stage. He trained many judokas and his most notable student is Nicolas Gill.

The Sports Hall of Fame will also pay tribute to Operation Red Nose and its founder Jean-Marie De Koninck, who created the organization in 1984 to raise funds for the Rouge et Or swimming team at Laval University. .
