Magenta TV was broadcasting coverage before the Turkey match when a map of Europe was shown. Crimea, which had been annexed by Russia, was not shown as part of Ukraine. There was great outrage. Moderator Johannes B. Kerner apologized.
There was still just under half an hour until kick-off of the European Championship debut of the Georgians against Turkey. The heavy rain in Dortmund was the topic of discussion on the broadcaster Magenta TV, and presenter Johannes B. Kerner and expert Michael Ballack spoke in the studio about the two teams and their chances at this European Championship.
The duo was just devoting their attention to the Turks when a map of Europe was displayed on the studio floor to provide visual accompaniment. Turkey’s borders were highlighted in red, while all of the other 23 European Championship nations were visible in less saturated colors.

The editorial team also recognized their faux pas and Kerner, in the person of the Turkish team, spoke out again with clear words after the final whistle of the Turkish victory.
