And it was images from Hamburg, of all places, that made the national coach really emotional after the final whistle.
During his interviews after the final whistle, Nagelsmann was also shown pictures of the fan zone at the Heiligengeistfeld, where the visitors literally went crazy after the German goals. This really touched the national coach in Stuttgart, around 530 kilometers away as the crow flies.

“I’ve just seen pictures from Hamburg, how many people are on the streets, celebrating the second goal, for example,” the 36-year-old said at the press conference without being asked. “It’s obviously moving and I’ve said that from the start: that one of our main tasks is to get people on board and to use the home advantage together.”

In fact, the European Championship wave is now sweeping across the entire country. What’s more, the Stuttgart crowd was much more enthusiastic than the Munich visitors at the European Championship opener against Scotland (5:1). “The atmosphere was great,” praised Nagelsmann. “There was a brilliant mood even before the game. The fan march passed by the hotel, and an extremely large number of people accompanied the team as they boarded the bus.” What particularly touched him was that after just under an hour of play, the fans in the stadium suddenly sang the German national anthem. “A very emotional moment,” said Nagelsmann. “I really like that.”

On Sunday against Switzerland in Frankfurt, then, if possible, as group winners in atmospheric Dortmund – before Stuttgart could once again be waiting as hosts in the quarter-finals.
