England Gloomy, Bellingham Shows His Little Side

Jakarta

Jude Bellingham has been praised for the maturity of his game. But England’s dismal run at Euro 2024 has left its young side out.

Bellingham looked promising when England narrowly won 1-0 over Serbia in the first match of Euro 2024. But then he became a ‘victim’ of the dimness of the English national team.

England were held by Denmark and Slovenia in the next two matches. Despite qualifying from Group C as top of the standings, the game of Gareth Southgate’s team was heavily criticized.

England were considered to have performed below standard: without intense pressing, with slow ball flow, and nervous in front of the opponent. Amidst the criticism pouring in on Southgate, stars such as Bellingham, Phil Foden, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane were also affected.

They haven’t looked as brilliant as they did when they were with the club. Even though Kane was the Bundesliga’s top scorer last season, while Foden and Bellingham were the Premier League and LaLiga Players of the Year respectively.

Bellingham is one of the most ironic examples. He performed crazy last season with Real Madrid, winning LaLiga, the Spanish Super Cup and the Champions League.

In his debut season, the 20-year-old midfielder scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists in 42 games. His maturity was highly praised, to the point that Toni Kroos could not believe his teammate was only 20.

However, Bellingham’s maturity was eroded at Euro 2024. Former England defender Rio Ferdinand said the 20-year-old Bellingham’s side was visible due to England’s dimness.

“Jude Bellingham had an incredible season last season in terms of media, PR, buzz, hype and he fully deserved that,” he was quoted as saying. Metro.

“He’s been phenomenal. He’s done things we haven’t seen before. He’s won a lot.”

“But in this tournament, I sometimes see a 20-year-old perform. He scored a goal, looked extraordinary in the first 45 minutes, but there are signs of a 20-year-old, an inexperienced player, who needs a little guidance,” he added. .

Ferdinand argues Bellingham needs a bit of help from England. One way he thinks this could be done is by playing him deeper in a double pivot with Declan Rice.

Rice could play the number six role, while Bellingham plays as the number eight. That would ease the pressure a bit on him instead of as number 10 as he did throughout the group stages.

“I’d like to see Jude become a number 8, a solid, reliable box-to-box midfielder who can form partnerships and bonds with the other midfielders, so that you think ‘this pairing is tough to play against’,” Ferdinand suggested.
