England narrowly escape elimination against Slovakia but join Switzerland in quarter-finals

England came close to an early exit against Slovakia (2-1 aet) in the round of 16 of Euro 2024 but finally secured their ticket to the quarter-finals of the competition, this Sunday, June 30 in Gelsenkirchen. The Slovaks first opened the scoring thanks to Ivan Schranz (25th) against an English team that was uninspired until the very end of added time. But Jude Bellingham equalized with an overhead kick in the final seconds (90th + 5), before Harry Kane scored the winning goal at the start of extra time (91st). England, finalists of the previous edition, will face Switzerland, victorious on Saturday against the Italian European champions, on July 6 in Düsseldorf.
