Slovenia fights its way into the round of 16 against England – The highlights in the video

Slovenia fought for a surprising draw against England and moved into the round of 16 as third in the group. England disappointed again, but still secured first place in the group. The highlights in the video.

After the disappointing performance of Gareth Southgate’s England team, the Three Lions have been the target of criticism. Expert Dietmar Hamann has clear words – especially for superstars Kane and Bellingham. Southgate needs to think about it before the round of 16.

The Three Lions have made it into the round of 16 without much luster. Coach Gareth Southgate’s team may have emerged as winners from the preliminary group, but their performance has been disappointing so far. TV expert Dietmar Hamann now has clear words to say – especially for the performance of English superstars Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham. “Southgate needs to think about what he’s going to do with Harry Kane. With Ollie Watkins you have an agile striker who goes into spaces that Kane doesn’t go into or can’t get into at all,” the 50-year-old writes in his column for “Sky”.

Kane also gets his fair share of criticism in the talk show on the station: “If I were in charge at FC Bayern, I would probably break out in a sweat after every English game. Because I see a player who turns 31 in July and looks older than he is. He may have scored 35 goals last year, but at Bayern everyone scores more than 20 goals,” says Hamann. He was hardly seen in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Champions League.

“He still has three years left on his contract. Bayern want to get back up. They are bringing in a few players now, and things seem to be moving. They want to get back to the top of the world or the top of Europe. Kane is not a top player in Europe,” said the expert. “Whenever they needed him last year, he wasn’t there.”

“For me you have to take out Bellingham”

Heavy criticism for Bayern’s top scorer – and Hamann has little praise for former Dortmund player Bellingham either: “Bellingham was hyped after his first six months in Madrid. But he has only performed averagely for Real since Christmas. In the Champions League, we hardly saw him in the quarter-finals, semi-finals or final. That’s why I’m not surprised by his performances at the European Championships.”

Hamann would put Bellingham on the bench in the round of 16 against Slovakia. “Southgate just lets things run their course, but he has to make a decision. Only one of Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham can play, for me that would be Foden. For me you have to take Bellingham out, Foden in the middle and Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon on the flanks.”

In his role as a pundit for the Irish TV channel RTE Sport, the former German international had already predicted that England would be the flop of the tournament: “My flop is England. A question mark behind the defense. An even bigger question mark behind the goalkeeper. I don’t think he exudes the necessary calmness to the team. If you want to win a major tournament, you need a calm influence from the back, and he is the opposite of that.”
