England squad without Maguire and Grealish

England’s national team will tackle the European Championship in Germany without midfielder Gareth Southgate and defender Harry Maguire. As team boss Gareth Southgate explained on Thursday when announcing the final 26-man squad, James Maddison, Jarrad Branthwaite, James Trafford, Curtis Jones and Jarrell Quansah were also dropped from the provisional squad.

The selection is led by top stars Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden.

Maguire, a 63-time Three Lions player, expressed his disappointment on X (Twitter). “I’m devastated not to have been selected,” wrote the 31-year-old from Manchester United, who was recently sidelined by a muscle injury. “Maybe I overdid it to make it.”

Grealish, on the other hand, has not had a good season. The 28-year-old attacker has only scored three goals in 36 competitive matches for Manchester City across all competitions.
