ESV Ingolstadt Faces Controversial Defeat Against TSV Ravensburg in Judo Bundesliga

The hoped-for placement among the top three teams in the 2nd Judo Bundesliga is unlikely to happen for ESV Ingolstadt this year. However, the 5:9 defeat at their direct competitor TSV Ravensburg was doubly annoying from the “Coyotes” point of view: In their opinion, they were disadvantaged several times by the referees.

“It is difficult for us to bear when we simply do not get any points in several fights despite good actions. Despite everything, we still had hopes of a 7:7 until halftime, but then we had to realize that we had no real chance,” complained the dejected head coach of the railwaymen, Sebastian Zimmermann.

Co-trainer has to leave the hall

After studying the video extensively, he gave examples the day after the fight: “Our Brazilian Jose Ryan da Silva Bruno repeatedly threw his opponent in the class up to 66 kg, but did not receive a single point for it. It was the same twice with Nikos Moulatze in the class up to 90 kg and Andreas Bauhofer (-73kg, Anmerk . d. Red.) was also disadvantaged. To be honest, I don’t understand it.” His brother “Lucky” Zimmermann had a similar experience. As assistant coach, he could no longer hold back after the controversial decisions, cursed loudly and was thrown out of the hall in Ravensburg.

The first round was relatively evenly balanced. The “point guarantors” (Sebastian Zimmermann) Mohamed-Montassar Rouahi (+100kg) and Georgios Aslanidis (-100kg) withstood the pressure in the heated atmosphere and scored points for the ESV. Georg Buschmann also managed a win in the class up to 73kg, so that at the changeover the score was only 4:3 for the hosts.

However, Buschmann, who was slightly injured, did not take part in the second duel. And so, despite all efforts under the special conditions in Ravensburg, only Rouahi and Aslanidis were able to collect further points for the “Coyotes”. Zimmermann ultimately called the final 5:9 a “very bitter defeat for us” – not least because of the way things went.

Discrimination against Zimermann is not an isolated case

The ESV coach’s disappointment is now mixed with the feeling that such critical fight dates this season can no longer be a coincidence. “In Sindelfingen, Bad Homburg and now in Ravensburg the referees were clearly against us. That cannot be allowed. We accept – as in Sindelfingen, for example – if the opponent is better. In principle, however, the decision must always be made on sporting grounds. My boys are totally frustrated, fights like this cost a lot of motivation,” warns the 55-year-old.

Perhaps it is a good thing for the ESV that there is now a break from fighting. The last fight of the current second division round for the “Coyotes” is not until September 7th against JT Heidelberg, currently seventh in the table.
