England’s national goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is injured going into the round of 16 against Slovakia. He injured himself during the warm-up and twisted his hand during a save. Watch the scene here in the video.
Jordan Pickford was in danger of missing England’s round of 16 match against Slovakia. The goalkeeper was injured during the warm-up and went into the match with a bruised stomach. His replacement barely played last season.
Shock for the English national football team. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had to abandon the warm-up before the round of 16 match against Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen due to an injury to his left hand.
The 30-year-old sprained his hand when he dove for a hard shot during warm-up. He then took off his gloves and disappeared into the locker room.
The Everton goalkeeper was back on the pitch at kick-off. If the injury prevents him from playing the full game, Aaron Ramsdale, who only played in six league games for Arsenal last season, is considered a possible replacement.
Pickford’s absence would be a bitter loss
“An injury like that just before the game is bad. We hope that it will still work out. I also assume that he will play,” said former England international Owen Hargreaves on Magenta TV a quarter of an hour before kick-off: “If not, it will be a huge loss for the team. Ramsdale has actually never played this season. Jordan Pickford was always in good form at the big tournaments.

Michael Ballack also made clear the importance of Pickford for the English, who have so far only been confident in defence: “It’s always bad when a goalkeeper has to be replaced. Especially since he is a key player. That would be a loss.”
