European Athletics Championships: Frenchwoman initially disqualified, but then complies with the rules – Gesa Krause wins European Championship silver

Gesa Felicitas Krause won the silver medal at the European Athletics Championships. The 31-year-old was initially only defeated by Alice Finot in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the first international championships after her maternity leave on Sunday evening in Rome.

The Frenchwoman won in 9:16.22 minutes, a European best time of the year, ahead of Krause. Because she had left the track, she was initially disqualified after the fact, before she was finally placed back in first place.

The award ceremony, which was originally planned for late evening, did not take place. Krause crossed the finish line in second place after 9:18.06 minutes, ahead of Britain’s Elizabeth Bird (9:18.39).

After the titles in 2018 and 2016, Krause from Trier was able to celebrate again after her maternity leave.
