European Football Championship: Nagelsmann reportedly removes Alexander Nübel from the European Championship squad

According to reports from the news agency sid and the ARD, national coach Julian Nagelsmann willSports show goalkeeper Alexander Nübel from his squad for the European Championships at home. The Bild-Zeitung reports. This means that the German national football team would enter the tournament with three goalkeepers and 23 field players.

Nübel, who played an excellent Bundesliga season with runner-up VfB Stuttgart, had already feared his removal. “It could still happen. To be honest, I just don’t know,” he said in an interview with t-online. It is clear that “there are more changes in field player positions during a tournament than in goal. Perhaps Julian will now say to himself shortly before the start that three keepers are enough for him because he wants to have greater flexibility on the field.”

Nagelsmann said on Thursday evening that the decision on the candidate to be eliminated from his final European Championship squad had already been made. The team was informed of the decision on Friday morning, the Sports show.

Most recently, central defender Robin Koch from Eintracht Frankfurt was also considered a candidate for elimination, as Nagelsmann had named five central defenders in the provisional European Championship squad. Aleksandar Pavlović from Bayern Munich and Maximilian Beier from TSG Hoffenheim were also considered shaky candidates.

The deadline for the European Football Union UEFA to name the final 26-man squad expires at midnight. Nagelsmann is expected to officially announce the squad after the last warm-up match against Greece (8.45 p.m.).
