Eva Lys Makes History by Qualifying for Wimbledon

Tennis player Eva Lys has qualified for the classic Wimbledon for the first time. The Hamburg native secured one of the last remaining places in the 128-strong main draw on Thursday (June 27, 2024) with a 4:6, 6:3, 6:4 win against American Amanda Anisimova.

With the 22-year-old Lys, a total of six German players are taking part in the oldest tennis tournament in the world this year.

Former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber (Kiel), 2022 semi-finalist Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau), Laura Siegemund (Metzingen), Tamara Korpatsch (Hamburg) and Jule Niemeier (Dortmund) had already secured their place in the main draw.

Draw for Wimbledon on Friday

The first round matches will be drawn on Friday (11 a.m.). The tournament at Church Road starts on Monday. The singles winners of the 137th Championships will collect almost 3.2 million euros.
