Everything is different. Tears and broken hearts alternate with overwhelming enthusiasm. You are flying to the Olympics, they called the Czechs

Štochlová was currently in Sicily, where she went to support her friend at a beach volleyball tournament, while Hermannová was preparing a birthday party for her partner. “And coach and president of the association Marek Pakosta called for it,” she recounted. The news from them pleasantly disrupted their plans for the summer.

Their path to the Olympics through the rankings was closed when they missed several tournaments due to health problems. There was hope left through the Nations Cup, but from it the path led only for the winners. And Hermannová and Štochlova, with the generous help of the other Czech pair Kylie Neuschaeferová and Markéta Svozilová, made their way to the final in Jurmala, Latvia.

But the Dutch stopped them in it. “That was one of the hardest defeats in our careers,” admitted Štochlová. “She broke our hearts, we’re over it,” the couple agreed. But at the same time, news began to reach them from various sources that things might not be so bad with their Olympic dream.

The Dutch did not meet the internal criteria of their union. “But I didn’t want to get my hopes up so that there wouldn’t be another disappointment,” admitted the twenty-five-year-old Štochlová, who was fighting for her first Olympics.

But on Friday, the speculations were confirmed. “When I started to blame myself that I just had chocolate,” laughed Hermannová, who has one and a half Olympic participations behind her. She was 17th in Rio de Janeiro with Markéta Nauch Sluková, but a positive covid test did not allow them to enter the tournament in Tokyo. Now he will go to the venue of the Games for the third time.

“I have experienced a lot in my career, but this was extreme. But I find it cruel and incomprehensible to the Dutch if they secure a ticket to the Olympics and then don’t get it,” she lamented her opponents, who apparently already suspected at the start of the final tournament of the Cup of Nations that they would not even secure victory in the Olympics. Their union demanded confirmation of performance by placing in elite tournaments.

“It was a very emotional week. When we managed to progress through the Nations Cup, we smelled progress and were so close… Then it was difficult, that’s why I didn’t even want to find out what the options were,” acknowledged Štochlová.

But now, on the other hand, with their Argentinian coach Sebastian Menegozzo, they have to quickly put together a pre-Olympic program. “The plan was anyway the tournament in Vienna and training with the Spanish women in Tenerife. We’ll just shorten the break a little and the training will change,” Hermannová is looking forward to it.
