【Wonju】Badminton lovers across the country are already eager to participate in the ‘Wonju Chiakbae Open Badminton Competition’.
According to the Wonju City Badminton Association, applications for participation in the ’19th Wonju Chiak Cup Open Badminton Competition’ were received starting on the 17th, and approximately 800 people applied in four days. In particular, not only fans from Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province but also leading teams from across the country, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, and North Chungcheong Province, are showing their candidacy, so a fiery battle is already expected. As participation applications are still being accepted until the end of this month, it is expected that close to 3,000 athletes will gather in Wonju.
Meanwhile, this tournament, hosted and organized by Gangwon Ilbo and Wonju Badminton Association, supported by Wonju City, and sponsored by Yonex, will be held at the Wonju Sports Complex, badminton stadium, and National Sports Center for two days from the 6th to 7th of next month. This year, the competition will be held in three categories: semi-self-sufficient group, in which former players and club members participate in pairs of two, men’s and women’s by age group in their 20s to 70s, and mixed doubles.
The winner of the semi-self-study group will receive a prize of up to 500,000 won, as well as a high-end racket, mini bag, and pouch, and a sports towel will be given as a souvenir just for participating. In addition, generous prizes such as gold bars, TVs, and home appliances will be entered into the lottery.
Club members who wish to participate must receive the National Badminton Competition form by the 30th and send it to [email protected]. The participation fee is 50,000 won per team.
Kim Dong-ha, president of the City Badminton Association, said, “As we have prepared the best tournament in name and reality this year, we ask for a lot of interest from club members.”
