The focus of attention in the men’s competition will be on Kokushikan University, who defeated the reigning champion Tokai University, who are aiming for their seventh consecutive victory, in the last tournament, to win their seventh title in 16 years. With the departure of ace Saito Ryu, how will they deal with Tokai University, who are aiming to recapture their title, with junior world champion Arai Michihiro (2nd year) at the center? In the women’s five-a-side competition, the focus will be on Pacific Rim University, who won their third title in 10 years in the last tournament. Tokai University, Ryukoku University, and other powerful schools such as Kokushikan University, eager to get revenge, are eager to win. What kind of drama awaits this year?

■Paris Olympic representative showdown! Tokai University Wolf Aaron vs Tsukuba University Nagase Takanori■

★It is now being distributed on the BS11 official YouTube channel. Please enjoy it.

The final of the 2015 tournament was between the “absolute champions” Tokai University, attempting their eighth consecutive victory, and Tsukuba University, aiming for their first victory. The outcome was a close match, and with no decision in the final match, the match went to a representative match. The players chosen were the aces of both teams, Wolf Aaron, a second-year student at Tokai University, and Nagase Takanori, a fourth-year student at Tsukuba University. Both would later become gold medalists at the Tokyo Olympics, and were aiming to win back-to-back gold medals at the Paris Olympics. In the 81kg and 100kg classes, one would likely never meet the other, these two judokas stepped onto the tatami with the honor of their universities on the line.
