Berlin/Sexten – The South Tyrolean tennis player Jannik Sinner has been number one in the tennis world for a few days. The exceptional athlete from Sexten was now interviewed by the renowned German weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”. In the detailed interview, which was conducted by editor-in-chief Giovanni di Lorenzo, the young athlete gave insights into his personal and professional life.

Challenges and pressure

Jannik Sinner, who left his home in South Tyrol at the age of 13 to train at Riccardo Piatti’s training camp on the Ligurian coast, spoke openly about the pressure that comes with his career. “Everyone has pressure, regardless of whether you are number one, two or three or just starting out. I felt the most pressure at the beginning of my career. My family never had much money and I wanted to earn my own money as quickly as possible,” said Sinner thoughtfully.

Father as role model

In the interview, Sinner explains that his father is his greatest role model: “Maybe he had just had a very difficult day when nothing went right. But he always came back with a smile and always brought me joy. That was the beautiful thing,” says the young South Tyrolean.

Personal insights

Sinner also revealed his human side and talked about his own difficult moments. “I can be 95 percent the way I am now. But there are five percent of me that are angry and sad,” the young tennis professional admitted.
