Exploring La Métropolitaine: Art, Sports, and Community Events in Île-de-France

Remember: The Metropolitan began on May 4, officially launched during a memorable inauguration day at the Manufacture de Sèvres, and will continue until September in no less than 13 municipalities in Île-de-France. Over the weeks, Beaux Arts takes the time to present each place, each program to you, these being as varied as dance shows at Hangar Y (Meudon), expositions at Mains d’Œuvres (Saint-Ouen) or at MABA (Nogent-sur-Marne), a recreation Park entirely handmade by schoolchildren at the Ateliers Médicis (Clichy-sous-Bois), reinvented basketball games at Crédac (Ivry-sur-Seine)…

The common thread of La Métropolitaine? Her hot air balloon, which appeared during the inauguration and the highlight of Act II in Nogent sur Marne and which we will soon see flying again in the Ile-de-France air. In the meantime, this gives each place the opportunity to organize participatory workshopsduring which the public can get their hands dirty and create banners intended to be hung on the hot air balloon. The next workshops will take place on Sunday June 30 at MAC VAL (Vitry-sur-Seine), as well as July 5 and 6 at the Maison Populaire (Montreuil). We take this opportunity to discover their schedule of exhibitions and events!

Commissioners Margaux Bonopera and Jean-Baptiste Carobolante are interested infeminist commitment of the American artist, through the bringing together of different drawings, paintings and sculptures, and above all thanks to the poignant autobiographical video If I Just Turn and Run (1998), in which the artist bares all by recounting the most significant memories of his life.

These same two commissioners imagined for Friday July 5 and Saturday July 6 the festival General Terroraround the question of the spectral in contemporary art. On the menu: the screening of the film Pinochet Porn (2008–2016) by Ellen Cantor, performances by the young artist Coraline Guilbeau (born in 1991), a “spectral music” concert orchestrated by scenographer Samuel Chochon, a round table between curators specializing in contemporary art… Good news : the whole thing is completely freeso see you in Act III, the weekend of July 6 and 7, for the centenary of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 1924!
