Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur explained what happened as follows: “We were in the queue and we activated the anti-stall – he said, visibly annoyed – the procedure was deliberate, Charles had to park to the side. It was a bad performance, even if we have to check the data. We were fighting with Mercedes and McLaren, between third and fourth place. However, I’m disappointed because now we are fifth and tenth. I haven’t seen any particular bouncing in the car but if there is this problem it must be eliminated because it does waste time”.

Certainly an unpleasant situation that will now force Leclerc to a Sprint comeback. Up front, the usual Verstappen worked wonders, capable of legitimizing the pole with two great fast laps, in SQ2 and SQ3, unapproachable. Confirmation for McLaren who placed two cars in the top positions. George Russell also did well, placing himself on the second row in front of Sainz’s red and his teammate Lewis Hamilton, confirmation that Mercedes seems to be competitive again and is preparing for a great challenge in the race with the reds. Sergio Perez climbs a bit with the Red Bull, seventh, then the Alpines of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, both qualified for the SQ3. Saturday at 12 the Sprint, at 16 the qualification for the starting grid of Sunday’s race.
