F1, Barcelona Grand Prix: Norris will start in pole position, Ocon and Gasly well placed

This Sunday, the Spanish Grand Prix will take place in Barcelona. Before this deadline, qualifying was held, and Lando Norris shone as he took pole position for the second time in his career, ahead of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. A great feat for the McLaren driver who beat his opponent from Red Bull with a time of 1:11.383, thus ahead of Verstappen by 20 thousandths.

Currently third in the drivers’ standings, Norris, acclaimed by the public, expressed the wish to consolidate this place during the Grand Prix, even if he is aware that nothing will be easy, especially with the tenors who will follow him: “I am super happy, I think this is my best pole position. It was very close all weekend, we had to achieve a perfect lap. It’s a pleasure to be in pole position. The objective is to convert this pole position, but it will be difficult against Max and Lewis who will start behind. My plan is to seek victory,” he declared.

To see if Norris will manage to win the second Grand Prix of his career, after his success on the Miami circuit last May. His teammate Oscar Piastri is in ninth position. Ferrari also did well with 5th and 6th places taken by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

Better for Ocon and Gasly

After a complicated last few weeks, Alpine is getting some fresh air, with 7th and 8th positions taken by Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon. In great difficulty at the Monaco Grand Prix where he clashed with his teammate before abandoning the race, Ocon shared with Canal + his relief after this result in Spain: “It’s very positive. We didn’t expect to be so competitive, we thought it would be a difficult weekend. Overall a positive day where we managed to get into Q3. »

Same story for Gasly who hopes to make this good day a reality during the Grand Prix: “It’s really positive for the team. The gaps are tighter than usual, but this weekend it worked well. I hope we can confirm tomorrow. » Qualifying was also successful for Mercedes, with Hamilton and George Russell starting from third and fourth positions.
