Father-Son Duo: LeBron and Bronny James to Make NBA History with Lakers

At number 55, late in the second round of the draft, the Lakers chose 19-year-old guard Bronny, who played for USC in college last year. This means he could actually be on the court next season with his father LeBron (39) – and on the same team. It will be the first time in NBA history that father and son will play in the league at the same time.

LeBron James has been playing for the Lakers since 2018, and even at his now biblical basketball age, he is still one of the best players in the league and was voted into the All-NBA Third Team in the 2023/24 season. He has a player option worth $51.4 million with the Lakers for the coming season, which he must exercise by the weekend. However, he could also reject it and negotiate a contract with the franchise for two or even three more years. Leaving LA should definitely no longer be an option.

Bronny put up 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in just under 20 minutes per game for the Trojans in college last season. At 6’2″, he is significantly shorter than his father (6’1″), but is considered a good defender and a clever player overall. He could initially play for the Lakers’ G-League team, not an unusual occurrence for a second-round pick. Sooner or later, however, he will likely play alongside his famous father.
