Tuva Hansen has had problems breathing through her nose her entire life. Now an operation has changed the life of the 26-year-old Bayern star.

Munich – Nose operations are no longer a rarity, but rather common practice. Often they involve cosmetic corrections – but by no means always. Bayern star Tuva Hansen also ended up on the operating table not for aesthetic reasons, but for health reasons.

The 26-year-old defender from Norway, who played 14 times for FC Bayern last season and won the championship, has struggled with a serious problem throughout her life: she could not breathe through her nose or only with great difficulty because her sinuses did not allow it.

One of the main problems: “When I have a cold, I always have to take antibiotics because I always get sinusitis afterwards,” Hansen explains to Norwegian TV station NRK. Having to constantly breathe through her mouth was a constant burden for her.

Although doctors in her home country advised her against it, she plucked up the courage this summer and decided to have an operation. She had to sacrifice 14 days of her vacation for it. “I couldn’t breathe through my nose,” complains Hansen in an interview with NRK.

“I was able to breathe normally for the first time in my life”: Bayern star Hansen completely free after surgery

With the support of her club, FC Bayern, the Norwegian underwent surgery in Munich to open her airways. It was a complete success: “When my sinuses burst open, I cried,” she says. “It was really extreme because I could breathe normally for the first time in my life. It was almost like being high. It gives your life a new meaning.”

In the past, flights were sheer horror for Hansen because the pressure in the cabin caused severe pain in his blocked sinuses. “On the flight back, I caught myself smiling out of the blue. People must have thought, ‘What are you doing?’ I felt like I was experiencing a rush of happiness.”

The now “overjoyed” Bayern player is excited to see whether the clear nose will also have a positive effect on her athletic performance. “I feel light in my body when I jog and I’m in amazingly good shape,” she reveals. And so FC Bayern could also benefit from a truly “liberated” Tuva Hansen. And from new star signing Lena Oberdorf. (epp)
