FC St. Pauli has apparently found a successor for Fabian Hürzeler. According to consistent reports, Alexander Blessin is set to replace the Kiezkickers’ promotion coach, who has moved to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported on Sunday that talks between the parties are well advanced. Blessin is under contract with Belgian first division club Union Saint-Gilloise until 2025, and the 51-year-old is set to sign a contract in Hamburg until 2026.
Accordingly, a transfer fee would probably have to be paid for Blessin. Kicker also reported on the personnel matter, but an agreement between the two clubs is still pending.
Blessin knocked Frankfurt out of the European Cup
The Stuttgart native worked in RB Leipzig’s youth department from 2012 to 2020 before taking up his first professional position as a coach at KV Oostende in 2020. In January 2022, he moved to CFC Genoa, but Blessin was unable to prevent relegation from Serie A. In December 2022, he left Genoa.

In the summer of 2023, Blessin moved to Belgium. He led Saint-Gilliose to cup victory last season, but in the battle for the championship title he narrowly lost out to champions FC Bruges. In the Conference League, he and his team eliminated Eintracht Frankfurt in the knockout round, but were then eliminated in the round of 16 by Fenerbahce.
Hürzeler’s departure was officially confirmed last weekend. St. Pauli reportedly received a transfer fee of 7.5 million euros. Recently, Christian Eichner from Karlsruher SC was also mentioned as a possible successor to the 31-year-old at the local club, but Eichner decided to stay at KSC.
