FC Twente Eyes Competition for Striker Acquisition, Including Wout Weghorst

FC Twente has several irons in the fire for a competitor of striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel. The Enschede club also has Wout Weghorst on the list. The Tukkers find the striker who played for FC Utrecht in recent months a ‘very interesting option’, they know Football International to report.

For Wout Weghorst, another candidate that technical director Arnold Bruggink has in mind for FC Twente, there is competition from Ajax. That is partly why he is also looking at other options. “Of course it would be very naive if we were to focus all our efforts on Wout now. And it is exactly the same the other way around,” he says.

FC Twente, which finished third in the Eredivisie last season and therefore enters the preliminary round of the Champions League, has identified Lammers as a ‘very interesting option’, writes the weekly. The striker had an excellent six months at FC Utrecht and scored eleven goals and three assists in twenty competition matches. “But in order to materialize the interest in the former PSV player, many financial snags will also have to be overcome,” said VI journalist Geert-Jan Jakobs.

Bruggink acknowledges that Lammers has left a good impression, but indicates that FC Twente still has a ‘very good striker’ in Ricky Van Wolfswinkel. “So it’s not like we need someone there immediately. Things will pick up as usual towards the end of the European Championship. We don’t panic.”

If FC Twente actually wants to go for the 27-year-old Lammers, the competition will be fierce. FC Utrecht would like to keep the striker, who has been rented from Scottish Rangers in recent months, and AZ is also rumored to be extremely interested in the former PSV and Atalanta striker.
