Fire service operation in the McLaren paddock

A fire service operation was called out in the Formula 1 paddock in Barcelona. There was heavy smoke in the McLaren motorhome on Saturday – apparently as a result of a fire.

As the English racing team announced, the team’s accommodation was “evacuated due to a fire alarm” in the morning. “The team was safely evacuated while the local fire brigade is dealing with the problem.”

The racing team did not provide any further details. Eyewitnesses initially reported heavy smoke and a pungent stench. Firefighters entered the motorhome wearing protective masks.

The area around the motorhome, where team members, guests and drivers are usually entertained, was initially cordoned off over a large area.

Police forces were also deployed. Shortly before the start of the final training at 12.30 p.m., an ambulance and firefighters left the location in question.
