Honghe Prefecture, located in the southwest of China, is named after the Red River that runs through it. It was once the home court of the professional basketball team Honghe Bulls. The plateau legend that dominated the basketball world at that time laid a solid foundation for the development of sports in the prefecture.
The first National Fitness Competition, hosted by the State Sports General Administration and the All-China Sports Federation, is a comprehensive national fitness event that integrates competition, performance, learning and exchange. The first National Fitness Competition (Southwest Region) is jointly hosted by Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Tibet. The competition has “5+10+N” competition events, which are held in the five southwestern provinces (regions and cities).

As an important part of the first National Fitness Competition, the basketball competition is divided into seven competition zones. Among them, the Southwest District Basketball Competition is held in Mengzi City, Yunnan Province, and is divided into four groups: men’s and women’s five-a-side, men’s and women’s three-a-side. In the three-day competition, 18 teams will compete in the form of a single round-robin group match.
In the opening match held on the same day, the men’s five-a-side event was played first, with the host Yunnan Provincial Team facing the Chongqing Municipal Team and winning the first game with a score of 109:54. In the subsequent three-a-side match, the Yunnan Women’s Team defeated the Sichuan Women’s Team 21:15 to gain the upper hand.
The Southwest Basketball Tournament is hosted by the Yunnan Provincial Sports Bureau, Yunnan Provincial Sports Federation, and the Honghe Prefecture People’s Government. (End)
