Flood of tickets! Türkiye and Czech Republic set new European Championship record

EM 2024: New records significantly higher

There were 15 yellow cards in total – that’s one and a half times the previous record! The previous record match was played between Germany and the Czech Republic on June 9, 1996 – at that time ten players received a yellow card. However, no players were sent off.

The game also set a new record in terms of fair play points – and here too the Czech Republic and Turkey achieved a good one and a half times the existing record – which was previously 13, but has now been reset to 20 with 15 yellow cards (one point), one yellow-red card (two points) and one red card (three points).

Two games have been at the top so far: Czechoslovakia won 3-1 against the Netherlands on 16 June 1976, with three red and four yellow cards. 20 years later, like the yellow card record on 9 June 1996, Bulgaria and Spain also collected 13 fair play points, but with two expulsions and seven cautions.

The defeat means the Czech Republic is bottom of the group and is eliminated from the European Championship. Turkey, second in Group F, will fight its way into the round of 16 and will face Austria, who won Group D. In the quarter-finals, their opponents from the round of 16, Romania, will face the Netherlands.
