In keeping with this, Bayern boss Herbert Hainer raved about the German offensive jewel in an interview with Welt am Sonntag: “Florian Wirtz is an incredibly good player. We can be happy that we have such players in Germany who are admired by the whole world.”

However, a timely transfer of Wirtz to FC Bayern is probably not an issue, his father and advisor Hans-Joachim has repeatedly made it clear that his son (contract until 2027) will stay at Bayer next season and tackle his first Champions League season under coach Xabi Alonso.

Leverkusen’s former squad planner Michael Reschke recently predicted to SPORT1: “I am sure that Florian Wirtz will enchant Bayer fans again next season.”

The Munich team has also apparently come to terms with this. “But I have read that he will definitely play in Leverkusen in the new season,” Hainer continued after his eulogy. A big bidding war for Wirtz is expected for the summer of 2025, with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona also positioning themselves.

Hainer: “Jamal knows what he has at FC Bayern”

Hainer also spoke about Wirtz’s congenial national team colleague Jamal Musiala. It is no secret that Bayern want to keep the 21-year-old on a long-term basis.

“Jamal knows what he has at FC Bayern. He came from our campus as a youngster and has established himself at the very highest level. He feels very comfortable at FC Bayern. We all hope that he will play for us for a long time to come,” emphasised Hainer.

Will the dream combination “Wusiala” come to fruition in Munich at some point? The duo is currently delighting fans at the European Championships at home, and will face Denmark in the round of 16 on Saturday (live ticker from 9 p.m.).
