Florida the Stanley Cup for the first time in its history

The Panthers dominated the Edmonton Oilers (2-1) in the seventh and final game of the final.

The Florida Panthers dominated the Edmonton Oilers (2-1) in Game 7 of the NHL final on Monday in Sunrise (Florida) to lift the Stanley Cup for the first time in their history.

Edmonton, who had lost the first three games of the series, did not achieve the feat of overturning the final after having managed to push Florida to the deciding game. The Oilers dreamed of being the first Canadian team crowned since the Montreal Canadiens in 1993. Florida lifted the trophy for the first time after losing in the final last year against Las Vegas.

“They say it’s the hardest title to win in sport, and you can’t imagine how hard it is until you achieve it.”, declared Panthers star Evan Rodrigues after his victory, author of an assist Monday on Carter Verhaeghe’s first goal. His coach Paul Maurice assured that he had waited for this “for a long time” even if “nothing is easy” for Florida, which was able to resist the Canadian comeback after leading this final 3-0.
