Football Manager 25 Reveals Exciting Plans for Future of Franchise: World Cup, Women’s Football, and More!

After the big news about the partnership with the Premier Leagueannounced last month, Football Manager 25 revealed more about its plans, not only for the upcoming edition, but for the next 20 years of the franchise. A World Cup announced by FIFA, a new interface or a Podcast are some of the news for players who usually play FM every year.

Through the game’s official blog, which serves to keep players up to date with everything the development team intends to implement, we learned about the most recent changes that will happen to the sports management game.

One of the points that the text talks about is the arrival of women’s football at FM which we had already talked about here in 2021, at the time still being integrated. This year, several licenses for FM 25 have already been guaranteed, and they continue to work to obtain more. In the coming months we will know which leagues will be playable, but one thing is already certain, we, as coaches, will be able to switch from men’s to women’s teams and vice versa.

FM World Championship

It’s true, you may have read somewhere that FIFA is going to organize a FM World Cup for players and it’s really true. Esports are coming to the franchise thanks to FIFAe, FIFA’s esports division, which invites you to participate in the FIFAe World Cup of Football Manager which takes place in Liverpool, from August 29th to September 1st, 2024. Football Manager 2024 will be used, in which 24 players will compete in the tournament representing their nation. A World Champion trophy and a prize of US$100,000 are at stake. This first edition will almost act as a test to explore how new e-sports formats can be created together.

What disappears in FM 25?

This year’s edition of FM 25 will cut out some mechanics of the past, namely the Touchline Shouts, the so-called indications that we need to encourage or ask for more from players, since their implementation was never as desired. The social media bar also disappears from our view, giving more space for other information, for example Data Hubintroduced a few years ago.

The Create a Club and Versus modes also disappear, due to poor player participation. Challenge Mode will also have to be remodeled and is therefore not part of this FM 25, with the promise of a return, with new mechanics in two or three years. Likewise the way Fantasy Draftwill not be available at launch, but it is possible that it will arrive in a later update, bigger and better implemented, perhaps with integration into eSports as well.

New Engine and Interface

The game will use the Unity, which will open new horizons for the franchise. This allows the game to have improved graphical fidelity and more efficient development processes. In the future and with more experience, this will lead to faster creation and implementation of game assets and some tweaks. This one FM 25 it is the starting point for the studio’s next 20 years.

With the new user interface, we can also read in the text that a powerful design and technical foundation has been built that can be easily scaled and improved in the future. This means that any future additions will strengthen the user experience without compromising consistency in the user interface.

With several challenges ahead, the development team worked with engineers from Unity to adapt your engine and give flexibility and dynamics needed from a UI perspective. There will be more information in September.

FM25’s new UI/UX is driven by what they call a “tile and card” system. A “tile” is a panel of information with a number of different states, from small amounts of information to larger “cards” that contain more material. The goal was to create something that would help build a sense of exploration for each player as they unlock the depth and detail of Football Manager. In this system, tiles are a way to build curiosity by providing information at a glance, while clicking on cards rewards interest with more detail. Here’s an example:

And then when you click, we can see more specific details:

There will then be what will become known as the “Portal” which will basically be a richer window into the wider football universe. This will give you much better tools for viewing Calendar and Messages, but it will also provide more information about what’s happening elsewhere thanks to News.

In the message sent to players, you can also see an image that shows the potential of the new tile and card system when we are in a game with the highlights of the match.

The message ends by saying that the release date of Football Manager 25 will be announced in September, at a time when they will announce more news about what is coming in this new year.
