Football: Mbappé’s first victim at Real Madrid, Joselu leaves the club and signs for Qatar

He did not want to suffer from the competition with Kylian Mbappé. Real Madrid striker Joselu signed a contract with Qatari club Al-Gharafa. Joselu has signed for two seasons plus an optional third.

Aged 34, Joselu was loaned to Real at the start of last season by Espanyol Barcelona with whom he was normally under contract until 2025. Real finally exercised the option to purchase the player from the Catalan club .

Present at the Euro with Spain

The Spanish international (12 caps), trained at Real, played 49 matches and scored 18 goals last season with the Merengue who won the Champions League, the Championship and the Spanish Super Cup. Joselu notably scored two goals in the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich. Present with La Roja in Germany for Euro 2024, he started in the victory against Albania (1-0).

“Real Madrid thanks Joselu for his professionalism and his madridism and shows him all its affection, as well as his family, to whom it wishes good luck in this new stage of their lives,” writes the Madrid club on its official website. During his career, in addition to that of Real and Espanyol, Joselu also wore the colors of Celta Vigo, Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt and Hannover in Germany, Stoke City and Newcastle in England, La Coruna and Alaves.
