Former Latvian Youth Football Team Player Roberts Zelmanis Passes Away at 23

Roberts Zelmanis, a former member of the Latvian youth football team, has died in Sweden, the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) reports on Sunday.

LFF reports that “the death of Zelmanis, a former player of the Latvian youth national team, has been confirmed in Sweden”.

Zelmanis, who has reached the age of 23, played two matches in the Latvian U-18 national team in 2018, but in the following two years he accumulated experience of nine matches in the U-19 national team. He has scored four goals and won a place with the team in the elite round of the 2020 European Championship, which was canceled due to the spread of Covid-19.

Later, Zelmanis was also called to the Latvian U-21 national team, but he did not make his debut there.

The defender represented “Liepājas”, Salaspils “Super Nova” and “Jelgavas” teams in Latvia, and also played in Lithuania and Sweden.
