    Former NBA player Drew Gordon died in a tragic car accident. He leaves behind his wife and three children.

    Portland – The North American basketball league NBA is in great mourning. Former professional Drew Gordon died in a tragic car accident, as his agent told the US broadcaster ESPN confirmed. The power forward was only 33 years old and leaves behind his wife and their three children.

    Former NBA star dies in car accident

    Drew Gordon was the older brother of NBA star Aaron Gordon, who won the title in the best basketball league in the world alongside MVP Nikola Jokić in the 2022/23 season. “The Denver Nuggets organization was devastated to learn of the tragic passing of Drew Gordon. He was far too young to leave this world, but his legacy will live on forever through his three wonderful children and all of his loved ones,” wrote brother Aaron’s team.

    “Our thoughts are with Aaron and the entire Gordon family during this extremely difficult time,” the Denver Nuggets statement continued. On social media, numerous fans responded to the NBA team’s post and wished the bereaved a lot of strength.

    Drew Gordon played in college for UCLA (2008-2009) and New Mexico (2010-2012). In 2012, he declared for the draft but was not selected by any team. He moved to Europe, where he played for Partizan Belgrade (Serbia), Dinamo Sassari (Italy) and Banvit (Turkey).

    In 2014, his dream came true and he joined the Philadelphia 76ers as an undrafted free agent. But he didn’t make the breakthrough. He only played nine games in the NBA and played for many European clubs between 2015 and 2023, including in France, Russia and Ukraine.

    He ended his career in July 2023. “Thank you, basketball, for everything you gave me! I gave it my best all these years and now I’m retiring. Thank you to all the fans, friends and family who supported me on my journey! The next chapter is here,” Gordon wrote at the time on X (formerly Twitter).

    Less than a year later, he died tragically. After Brandon Hunter, who died while doing yoga in September 2023, he is the next ex-NBA player to lose his life early. (smr)
