Former World Number 71 Claudio Pistolesi Discusses Nadal’s Retirement, Sinner, and Alcaraz’s Future

Former world number 71 Claudio Pistolesi had a lot to say in his interview with Italian media Fanpage.

After explaining why Jannik Sinner was a unique player and discussing the longevity of Rafael Nadal compared to that of Roger Federer, the former coach of Robin Soderling also spoke about the retirement of the Spaniard and the succession embodied because Sinner and Alcaraz.

“When I think that Nadal has won Roland Garros 14 times, my head is spinning. We can’t say anything to him. I don’t understand how anyone can criticize him for the way he’s retiring. He’ll do it when he wants to. I think he has hopes for the Olympics, maybe even in doubles with Alcaraz. Finishing with an Olympic medal would be something historic, and a passing of the baton with Carlitos. I don’t think Alcaraz or Sinner will win more than 20 Slams, but you should never say never, but it’s very, very difficult. Every era has its champions: Sinner and Alcaraz have proven that there is already someone after Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Tennis is moving forward, even if these three have left a memorable mark, forever. With Murray in addition who was world number one with all three in full swing. I would also like to make a little place for him.”
