On June 24, the 2024 Gymnasium World Championship kicked off in Macau, China. Four players from Shijiazhuang No. 2 Middle School were selected for the Chinese middle school basketball team.
A total of 37 high school basketball teams from 20 countries and regions will participate in the 2024 Gymnasium World Championship. The competition will open on June 24 and the final will be held on July 2. It is reported that the participating Chinese high school basketball team was formed by the Chinese Students Sports Federation. The selection and formation of the team followed the model of the 2018 Chinese men’s basketball red and blue teams. After layers of selection, the men’s and women’s basketball teams were finally determined, and the blue team and the red team participated in the competition respectively.
In the lineup, four middle school players from Shijiazhuang No. 2 Middle School are on the list, namely Zhao Zhiyang and Li Mingze who were selected for the Chinese Middle School Boys Basketball Blue Team, and Zhao Yuhan and Zou Jiaqi who were selected for the Chinese Middle School Girls Basketball Red Team.
It is understood that this is the first time for the boys’ basketball team of Shijiazhuang No. 2 Middle School to participate in the Gymnasium World Championship, and the second time for the girls’ basketball team of No. 2 Middle School. In 2017, all the girls’ basketball team of Shijiazhuang No. 2 Middle School represented China in the Gymnasium World Championship held in Croatia and won the tenth place.
According to the grouping, the men’s basketball blue team is in Group A with Macao, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, China and India; the men’s basketball red team is in Group B with Turkey, Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria. The women’s basketball red team is in Group C with Chinese Taipei, France and Uganda; the women’s basketball blue team is in Group D with Greece, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
In the first round of the game, the men’s basketball blue team including Zhao Zhiyang and Li Mingze won a big victory over the Hong Kong team in the first match, and the women’s basketball red team including Zhao Yuhan and Zou Jiaqi defeated the French team 61-46.
