The draw for the men’s draw at Wimbledon, which will be held from July 1 to 14, delivered its verdict on Friday June 28. The favorites are, overall, rather spared by this first round. The situation is a little different on the French side.

Carlos Alcaraz (seeded No. 3) and Novak Djokovic (No. 2), who recently had knee surgery and is nevertheless well-positioned for the tournament, will not meet before a possible final. The last winner of Roland-Garros, defending champion at Wimbledon, will face Mark Lajal, who came from the qualifiers. For the Serb, it will also be an opponent from the qualifiers: Vit Kopriva.

He had been announced forfeit, a priori he will be there. For what should be his last Wimbledon, Andy Murray will play against Tomas Machac. Which is not necessarily a good memory for the Scot who was eliminated by the Czech in the first round of the Marseille tournament last February. Jannik Sinner (n°1), present in the same part of the table as Alcaraz, inherited from the German Yannick Hanfmann.

Corentin Moutet, eliminated in the round of 16 at Roland-Garros, withdrew after the draw, where he had to face Alex de Minaur.

On the French side, it is another duel that will attract all the attention: that between Gaël Monfils and Adrian Mannarino, the man in form at the moment against the grass specialist. Advantage “la Monf” who has beaten his compatriot five times in seven meetings on all surfaces. On the other hand, at Wimbledon, they faced each other twice (2015 and 2017), Adrian Mannarino always won.

Good news after this draw: there will be at least two French people in the second round, since the draw offered another face to face between two Habs: Alexandre Müller and Hugo Gaston. Psychological advantage for the second who won a final against the first during the Lyon challenger, on June 16. The French number one, Ugo Humbert (n°16) will have his chances against Alexander Shevchenko, but could fall on the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 16. Arthur Cazaux inherited from Belgian neighbor Zizou Bergs. Two other French people will have to battle against high-sounding names, losing momentum: Constant Lestienne against Lorenzo Musetti and Arthur Rinderknech against Kei Nishikori.
