“It was really a very, very strong performance. In terms of character, it was crazy how she did it,” says Christopher Schwarzer, still enthusiastic about the course of the fight.
The young athlete from Frankfurt (Oder) has achieved another special result. Exactly 20 years ago, her coach Susi Zimmermann (now Garling) won the U18 European Championship title. Ten years later, clubmate Lena Gercke won gold at an U18 European Championship and another ten years later Charlotte Nettesheim. “I didn’t expect to win gold at first and that makes me even happier,” beams the European champion. “I still can’t believe it, but the medal obviously means a lot to me.”
Her two home trainers, Michael Rex and Susi Garling, are also proud of their protégé. “Micha and I are simply overwhelmed and can’t believe it. It’s indescribable, this feeling that everything has paid off in the end and all the effort and sacrifices have been worth it. I’m incredibly happy to have such a great team,” says Susi Garling enthusiastically.
