Risacher is the second top pick from France in a row after Victor Wembanyama, who was selected first by the San Antonio Spurs last year. Two other Frenchmen, Alex Sarr and Tidjane Salaün, were among the top six in the NBA Draft. The selection process allows the NBA’s professional teams to recruit new players from the best young players in US colleges and international basketball.

Tristan da Silva: Another German in the NBA

This year, too, a German was selected by one of the NBA teams in the first round of the draft: Munich-born Tristan da Silva will play for Orlando Magic next season. This means that the 23-year-old with Brazilian roots will be part of the team of the German world champion brothers Franz and Moritz Wagner.

Bronny James, the son of NBA record player LeBron James, was not considered in the first round. However, the 19-year-old is expected to be selected in the second round on Friday night. The club that takes him in may also be able to benefit from the playing skills of his 39-year-old father. LeBron James can opt out of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers this summer and has indicated that he would like to play with his son.
