French History and Elegance: Unveiling the Design of the Medals for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

The design of the medals for the next Olympic and Paralympic Games was revealed on February 8 at the same time as the sale of an additional series of tickets for spectators.

The medals that will be awarded this summer are decorated with original pieces from the Eiffel Tower.

The iron cut into a hexagon – a shape evoking France – had been preserved following renovation work during the last century. It was thus reused, bearing the Games logo and transformed into a new piece of history.

While the back of the Olympic medals features the traditional image of the Greek goddess of victory Nike, the Paralympic medal includes the words ‘Paris’ and ‘2024’ written in Braille. Now universal writing for the visually impaired was invented by the Frenchman Louis Braille.

The medals were designed by French fine jewelry house Chaumet and are produced by Monnaie de Paris, which also issues world championship medals for World Archery.

Medals will be awarded in archery in five Olympic events from July 25 to August 4 and in nine Paralympic events from August 29 to September 5, with both competitions taking place on the iconic Esplanade des Invalides, in the heart of the capital French.

A limited number of tickets to attend these events are still available for purchase online.
