French Tennis Federation Contemplates Men’s Doubles Pairing for Olympic Games

Nothing has yet been made official by the French Tennis Federation (FFT). But after his victory against Arthur Fils on the Rosmalen lawn in the 2nd round on Wednesday (6-3, 7-6), Ugo Humbert seemingly dropped some important information. “It was not easy to play against a friend. We will play doubles together at the Olympic Games,” Messin revealed at the ATP microphone. One of the two pairs lined up for the Olympic men’s doubles tournament is now known, it will be composed of Ugo Humbert and Arthur Fils.

The mystery still hangs over the second, however. While Edouard Roger-Vasselin could have ensured his presence if he had been one of the 10 best players in the world in doubles, his drop to 14th place changes the situation. At the start of the season, the plan was to partner him with Nicolas Mahut but the two men have not played together recently. The alternative of Sadio Doumbia (34th) and Fabien Reboul (33rd), whose results over the past year have been interesting (titles in Montpellier and Bucharest in 2024), is also on the table.

The FFT has until June 19 to submit nominations for the doubles events. In singles, the selection for the men should be as follows: Ugo Humbert, Gaël Monfils, Arthur Fils and Corentin Moutet who would take the place left to him by Adrian Mannarino.
