French Tennis Player Corentin Moutet Withdraws from Wimbledon Due to Injury

If there is a Frenchman in the second week at Wimbledon, it will not be him this time. Eighth-place finisher at Roland-Garros, Corentin Moutet will ultimately not play on the London turf. Friday, after the draw which had given him a very difficult challenge in the person of Alex de Minaur in the first round, he announced on social networks that he was giving up due to an injury which had been bothering him for several weeks , or even several months.

“Since my preparation for Roland Garros, I have suffered from bone edema. Despite all efforts to heal and be ready for Wimbledon, the pain persists. After careful consideration with my team and my doctor, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the tournament”, he explained in his message. This choice was also guided by the rest of its calendar.

Duckworth takes advantage

“This decision was not taken lightly, but it is necessary in order not to compromise my participation in the next Olympic Games in Paris,” he added. Moutet recovered the 4th qualifying place for the event after his performance on the Parisian clay and Adrian Mannarino’s choice to give him his place.

Moutet’s withdrawal benefited James Duckworth, who will now face his compatriot De Minaur in the first round. The Australian won the draw between the four highest-ranked players who had lost in the third round of qualifying, notably against the French Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Luca Van Assche.
