A long-term job seeker, Franck had never played badminton before. He arrived in shorts, sneakers and all smiles on Thursday June 6 at the Douarnenez multisport hall to take part in the From the stadium to employment operation. An event which offers companies the opportunity to recruit differently, by first discovering the interpersonal skills of candidates through sporting activities.
The participants are anonymous, racket in hand, and they only reveal their professional situation after the shared lunch. “No CV or professional interview which can be barriers: we play together, we discover each other, and then we discuss employment”, summarizes Vincent Rouziès, director of the France Travail Douarnenez agency.
“Interviews on necessarily new bases”
He organized this meeting alongside the National Sports Agency, the Brittany Badminton League and its local clubs, with funding from the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Some 80 job seekers from the sector had been invited, and hit the wheel with seventeen employers, from companies of very different sizes.
During the morning, the activities proposed aimed to highlight qualities such as team spirit, the ability to listen and mobilize, rigor or a sense of anticipation. “It is once the sporting activities are over that everyone introduces themselves and the interview part begins, on necessarily new bases than during traditional recruitment,” adds Vincent Rouziès.
Franck said he was curious about this new way of approaching job dating, “even if I will still try to find clues to identify employers,” he confided before the warm-up and the first discussions.
According to France Travail, these From stage to employment operations are bearing fruit, with a return to employment rate of 60% within six months. “Employers are also attracted to break the codes and thus demystify their image: a mason, for example, will be able to identify the qualities of a future team member, this is valuable in a small structure,” notes one of the managers present. Badminton is also used to bring down the nets!
