Furukata Dominates Tohoku High School Championships: Boys’ and Girls’ Handball Titles After Five Years

On the 23rd, 17 events were held in various locations in the Tohoku High School Championships, with Furukata winning both the boys’ and girls’ handball championships for the first time in five years. The boys’ championships were the second consecutive tournament, and the girls’ championships were the first in two years. Hanamaki Minami won the girls’ softball championship.

In weightlifting, Tsutomu Senda (3rd year at Mizusawa High School) won the 102kg class, and Kenshiro Yamazaki (3rd year at Morioka Technical High School) won the over 102kg class. In wrestling, they came in first in three weight classes for both men and women.

In women’s judo, Yuna Ihara (3rd year Miyako) came in second in the 70kg class, and Nanako Ishikawa (3rd year Morioka University Affiliated High School) came in second in the over 78kg class. In rhythmic gymnastics, the men’s team Morioka City came in second. In archery, the men’s team Morioka Technical High School came in second, and the women’s team Hanamaki Kita came in third. In rowing, Yamada came in second in the women’s coxed scull.
